Häme’s Ox Road is a historical road that runs from Hämeenlinna to Turku. During this trip, you will hear stories
and explore the route.’


9 am – Departure from Hämeenlinna at Wetterhoff
Your guide will join you, and you will begin your time-travelling trip on Häme’s Ox Road. Your guide will tell you the story of the Ox Road from the 9th century to this day. The route runs through Kouvala to Kuittila in Renko.

9:30 – Härkätien Kynttilä, Renko
You will have morning coffee in an incredible “cowshed”. The farmer’s wife has baked fresh buns for the group, and just like the singing church official in the 18th century, the farmer will sing for you.

11:30 am – Porras Tannery, Tammela
You will drive to Porras along the Ox Road through Lietsa. As you drive along the quiet gravel road, the guide will tell stories from a different time. The beautiful red buildings in the farmyard welcome you to the life of a tanner in the 1880s. You will explore the restored museum buildings and climb the sturdy stairs to the attic for lunch. After lunch, you will go for a walk across the bridge towards the charming village road and meet the locals.

2 pm – Kaukolanharju observation tower, Tammela
If the group is interested and there is time, you can take a short walk of 500 meters to the Kaukolanharju observation tower which has a great view of the surrounding lakes.

3 pm – Vekkilä museum farm, Tammela
Enjoy an 18th-century idyll at this farmyard with old buildings. The farm has many native breeds of animals from chickens to cows and pigs to sheep and horses. You can also shop at the farm.

3:45 pm – Makuliha shop, Tammela
In the farm shop, you can find seasonal and grilled meats, sauna-smoked ham, custom cuts and sausages, and fresh meat from nearby farms
